The band's debut album, Lungs, was released on 6th July 2009 and was at the number 2 position its first four weeks on the charts, behind the late Michael Jackson. In school Welch was labelled as dyslexic and dyspraxic.
She was often admonished by teachers for singing, a habit which she was unable to stop.
